Exeter Pat Tests – Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
These Terms of Business apply to all services provided by Exeter Pat Tests, registered in England and Wales. By instructing us to carry out PAT testing services, the client agrees to the terms set out below.
1. Definitions
“Company” refers to Exeter Pat Tests
“Client” refers to the individual, company, or organisation engaging our services.
“Services” refers to Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and related inspection services.
“Equipment” refers to electrical appliances made available for testing.
2. Scope of Services
2.1 The Company provides Portable Appliance Testing in accordance with:
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
IET Code of Practice for In‑service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
2.2 PAT testing is a visual and electrical safety check only and does not guarantee future performance, reliability, or safety of equipment.
2.3 We only test equipment that is safe and accessible at the time of visit.
3. Client Responsibilities
The Client agrees to:
Ensure access to the premises and equipment at the agreed time
Make all equipment available, unplugged where possible
Ensure equipment is clean and free from hazards
Inform the Company of any known faults or sensitive equipment
Provide a suitable power supply where required
The Company reserves the right to refuse to test unsafe or inaccessible equipment.
4. Pricing & Quotations
Price is £1 an item, No vat, there maybe a travel cost over 40 miles
4.1 Quoted prices are based on the information provided by the Client (e.g., number and type of appliances).
4.2 Where the number of appliances differs or extra work is required, the Company reserves the right to:
Adjust the final invoice accordingly, or
Provide a revised quotation for approval
4.3 All prices are exclusive of VAT unless stated otherwise.
5. Payment Terms
5.1 Payment is due within 14 days of invoice date unless otherwise agreed in writing.
5.2 Late payments will incur:
Statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998
Reasonable recovery costs 8% above the Bank of England Base Rate, Charged at a daily rate
plus £40 Legal Compensation
As set out from SBC (Small Business Commissioner)
5.3 The Company reserves the right to withhold certificates or reports until payment is received in full.
6. Failed Equipment
6.1 Equipment that fails testing will be clearly labelled as “Fail – Do Not Use”.
6.2 The Company is not responsible for:
Repairing failed equipment unless agreed separately
Removing faulty equipment from service
Re‑testing repaired equipment unless requested
7. Certification & Reports
7.1 Test results will be provided in the form of:
Asset labels on equipment
A test report or certificate (digital or paper) Only given out when payment has been made
7.2 Certificates reflect the condition of equipment at the time of testing only.
8. Access, Delays & Cancellations
8.1 Missed appointments, restricted access, or delays outside the Company’s control may result in additional charges.
8.2 Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 The Company holds appropriate Public Liability Insurance.
9.2 The Company shall not be liable for:
Loss of business, profit, or data
Equipment failure occurring after testing
Damage caused by pre‑existing faults
9.3 Liability is limited to the value of the Services provided, except where prohibited by law.
10. Health & Safety
10.1 The Client must ensure the working environment is safe and compliant with health and safety regulations.
10.2 The Company reserves the right to suspend work if conditions are deemed unsafe.
11. Force Majeure
The Company shall not be liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond its reasonable control (e.g. severe weather, fire, power failure, illness).
12. Data Protection
12.1 The Company processes personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
12.2 Client information will be used solely for service delivery, billing, and legal compliance.
13. Complaints
Any complaints must be submitted in writing within 14 days of the service date. We will aim to resolve complaints promptly and professionally.
14. Governing Law
These Terms of Business are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
15. Acceptance
By instructing Exeter Pat Tests, the Client confirms acceptance of these Terms of Business.
